I'm Alex Najem. I built swim.taxi in the evenings to learn how far I could take AI coding agents while making something useful.

The short bio

I'm the Chief Technology Officer at PEX. I've spent more than 20 years working in SaaS and fintech, building payment integrations and systems that have to be secure, reliable, and understandable to the people operating them.

swim.taxi is separate from that work. It's a personal project, it's free, and the source code is available.

Why, and how, I built it

All of it was built with AI coding agents. Claude and Codex produced the code while I set the direction, made the product and technical decisions, reviewed their work, and tested the result. Learning how to build well with these tools was a large part of the point.

I wanted a real project rather than a demo. A carpool app gave me a reason to work through on-device AI, maps and routing, local data, iCloud sharing, accessibility, privacy, and ideas that turn out to be annoying at 5:20am.
